Please help. How do I get the shift handle off

Any one no if the shift handle from 1954 7.5 fleetwin would fit 71 6hp

You need to remove the twist grip and then split the handle in half. The parts look similar on the 1957 7.5 but not sure if they are interchangeable

My bad just woke up the 1957 has a different part number as well. You need to pull the powerhead to change the shift handle. There should be plenty available on ebay?

Thank you very much for the help. Sounds easy to take the power head off but for some reason nothing ever goes easy

You just need to pull the throttle shaft off of the side of the engine and unbolt the powerhead. They are glued down pretty good sometimes just put a 2x4 on the side of the powerhead and smack it side to side until it breaks loose. Pull the set screw out of the lever and pull the handle out.

Be careful of the washers betwen the lever and the exhaust housing unless you pull the gearbox first then it will fall on the ground.

Yes they are proud of them.--------I have seen many ingenious repairs made to them.-----------If you look closely you may see that it is a combination of materials.--Steel and aluminum.---At least they were at one time.
