Evinrude 6 hp starting problems

Sounds like you are on the right track! Definitely should not be any fuel leaks of any kind anywhere. Sounds to me like it is running on the fuel put in the bowl from hand priming. There are some good fuel pump assembly guides on the ramblings by others....

Finally! The engine is up and running. Turned out the fuel pump filter cap (part #0312629 replaced by part #0329972) was apparently leaking fuel and sucking air.
Now just have to get it on the boat and test it for real on the water.

I know this is a little off subject, but what can be used for a suitable replacement for the cover seal part #0206096 since this part is no longer available? Mine is all cracked and dry, I'm sure it doesn't make a very tight seal any more.

Search this bulb seal: 1/8" WHITE Edge Trim Seal with 3/8" BLACK BULB "C" RV Camper Lok
This is what I used and it fit my cover great and sealed well. I used white because mine had a white channel. Color did not matter too much to me. You can find several sizes if this does not fit your dimensions. I placed the seam for the seal at the front of the cover.

So, finally got out on the water for a real test. Afetr 10 minutes of low to medium throttle, I finally gave it full throttle and after 30 seconds it died. I slowly pulled the recoil rope a few times, everything felt OK so I pulled it sharply and it sputtered to life again. It ran flawlessly after that (thank God).

Thanks to all that offered their help, knowledge and advice along this journey, you guys are awesome!!!
