Evinrude 5502 speed control

Hi there all!
I picked up an old outboard that has a problem staying in “fast” position. There is a single lever (left side) that regulates speed and must be held in place while it’s running.

Is there any adjustment to this?

A 1965 model 6 HP.----There is a tapered friction block inside the throttle grip.-----Or coils are rubbing on flywheel.
