Evinrude 4p hp throttle pinion bushing repair

Title is mis-leading. You have a 40hp, not 4hp

Not sure what bushing you mean. The one that holds the vertical throttle shaft/gear? If so, you have to remove the vertical shaft and gear. then drive the bushing out from below.

Don't know if you have a tiller or not. Anyhoo, the horizontal gear/shaft has to be removed to get the pinion gear out of the way first.

It is an electric start model 40 hp.It is the vertical gear
 
As I said. Remove the parts I said, and drive the bushing out from below. Are you replacing it because the throttle is too hard to move? That is usually because corrosion has built up around the outside of the bushing, squeezing it inward and tight against the gear. Once you get the bushing out, scrape the corrosion out of the hole it came out of, and lube it liberally with some good marine anti-corrosion grease when re-installing.
 
Throttle is not hard to move but gear is wobbling around a bunch.I assume flywheel must be removed.It is wobbling so much it might be affecting acceleration .I have lost 2 mph in the last 6 months according to gps
 
Not to concerned about 2 mph but the amount of play in the bushing has me thinking it will not be to long before this causes a complete failure.If not replaced
 
I am also in the process of resealing the foot due to leaking around shift rod.When I pulled the driveshaft the upper o ring did not come out with it.Do I need to fish it out and replace don't these come in the foot seal kits.I thought they usually come out attached to the driveshaft.
 
I believe that in their infinite wisdom, by 1976 they had made a change that put the o-ring in the crankshaft instead of on the drive shaft, making replacement a major project. I didn't approve, but they didn't ask me.
 
They certainly didn't expect it to need replacement. But since you can't really examine it, it's hard to tell. And that's another reason I don't like it.
