"I just picked up a 1981 4.5 hp E5RHCIC
and I cant figure out how to keep the motor up in the tilted position. It has a shallow water tilt lever but how do I lock it for beaching.

The large carriage bolt that g

The large carriage bolt that goes thru the transom brackets and swivel bracket..... There's a nut and a large spring on the end of it. This nut is a tension ajustmant nut.

Tighten it a bit at a time until you achive the desired tension to hold the engine where you want it.

it has to have a stow position!! lift up and while it's in the up position try locking the manual tilt pin and see if it stays up.
