"Thank you for the tip but that engine need to be choke and crank about 12 times before it start and It will stall every time I put the engine in gear. (Cold or hot)
Also, it will run if I increase the idle half way when I put it in gear but I cannot slow it down.
The carburetor was rebuilt but no difference.
I heard that this engine as never started with one stroke from the beginning.
Do you have a recommendation? and the specifications of the cylinder and piston so I could clear that possibility?

Thank you.
Jo"

"Have never seen 'wear' in an outboard cylinder making it needed to re-size!
The measurements that you may be after are all in the OEM work shop manual, but most likely of little help in your case.
The comp reading indicates no big problems ABOVE pistons.
My guess is that your problem is more related to cranck case leakage either between cylinders (middle crank shaft 'sealing' or upper/lower crank shaft seals.
Unless scored cyls, which I doubt, the solution in your case might just be a compl engine re-seal kit, a new center cranck shaft bearing and a new set of piston rings. They may have lost tension over the years, but will probably measure out to specs!
Start by getting an OEM manual for yor engine."

"Haffiman37, I appreciate very much your information’s and recommendations on my engine problem.
That will be my winter project.
By the way I have a friend that land me is Clymer shop manual and it cover all Evinrude models from 1995 to 2003.
His the specifications of the 4.5 hp 1995 are the same has 1982 model?

Thank you.
Jo."

"Unfortunately I do not have any books available to give you the specs.
As for manuals, I always worked with the specific OEM manual for the year model I was working on. From time to time service bulletins came out changing specs, and I then corrected my manuals. Have never been a fan of 'one covers all' system, they always seems to miss some important part."

"Thank you again for the info.

"Thank you again for the info.
Maybe there is somebody that has a PDF!

I am surprise that Johnson/Evinrude does not give the manual on PDF for free.
Somme other company did start to do it, because to many people scrap the engine instead of repairing it and they lose part sale!!! $$$
(Penny-wise dollar foolish)

Well, I still have some time before I start the job.

Jo."

"The only things that are important are the torque of conrods, crank-case and head. Rest is mainly plain sailing.
But at least use Gel Seal ll from BRP at the crank halves!
Gaskets, rings you may get from this site at good prices. Main center bearing I have not checked.
OEM manual pops no and then on e-Bay."
