"I have an evinrude Big Twin 40hp. I am trying to find out the year. The nunbers I found are in front of the cover on the brace in front. They are as follows. DS21B and 1919534. I have a photo, but I am having a problem downloading it. I wiil try and post it later."

looks like someone put an evin

looks like someone put an evinrude cover on a johnson. model #'s appear to be for a 1959 johnson 35hp. color looks like a johnson.

"As Mark states above, that is a Johnson outboard with a Evinrude hood. The electrical connector hole on the starboard side indicates that the engine is a 1960 40hp Johnson. It was the very first 40hp Johnson put on the market, and the last to use that type electrical hookup.

You didn't list the full model number which is RDS-21B..... 1960 40hp Johnson."
