anyone how can i remove brass bushing at the shift rod in the lower unit
book says use a special tapered punch, no number or part discription?

You can actually ( with some effort and patience ) remove and replace the o-ring without removing the bushing / retainer.-------Some say it can not be done.-------Then again you could run a 5/16" nc tap in there about 3 threads and pull it out using threaded rod or a long bolt.---------I also have and use the factory tool.

I used a piece of 5/16 rod..just drove it out from the bottom on my 35
