Dont know a whole lot about boat motors, but mine will crank over really well but then as i crank it will start having gas come out of the front of what i am guessing is the intake.

I assume you are speaking of the carburetor. Does gas also flood out as you squeeze the primer bulb? That would indicate a defective float or float valve within the carburetor.

Otherwise, the "it depends" answer applies. Could be overchoking, could be trying to start it with motor tilted up. Could be defective reed valves. And more "could be"s
