"evinrude 40 hp 86 model had problem with primer solenoid choke leaking when choke activated , replaced red manual valve which fixed the leaking problem also replaced gasket and valve seat which where slightly different to the original one.Original ones where in 2 pieces new one was in 1 piece molded together. but when i put the new ones in the solenoid would not work.But with original gasket and valve seat back in it works perfect. Maybe the valve plunger or some other parts might have to be changed also.

Did you get the right part? check the part numbers? what was taken apart should be what is put back in.

"thanks for your reply. the original one is a separate gasket 32mm square with a hole in each corner and one hole in the middle. Part No. 0511808 and a separate valve seat 20mm round. Part No..0511810. They said these were superseded and no longer available,so they sent me one piece gasket with valve seat molded in the middle of it as one item piece, which doesn't work.has any body come across this problem"
