Evinrude 40 hp 1995 trouble

I have a 1995 Evinrude 40 hp. When i try to fo faster than idle speed the motor will not go. When i try to go fast the engine shakes a lot and smokes like crazy and wont go faster. Another wierd thing is that it idles fine when trim is tilted up. but when the trim is tilted down past a certain point it starts to smoke a lot and wants to stall. If you know what this could be i will take any suggestions. Thank You!

Start with a simple compression test.----------------------Your carburetor float valves may be leaking / not adjusted properly.--------------------Confirm a good hot spark on both cylinders----------------Check that the flywheel key is not sheared ( timing )
