"Just bought a pontoon boat, and I can't get the motor to start. It's a 1982 Evinrude 35HP 2cyl 2-stroke (model E35ELCND). I have changed the spark plugs, cleaned the carb, adjusted the idle speed(1 1/2 turns out), used new fuel, and charged the battery(also used the new battery out of my fishing boat), but it will not start. Any ideas?"

Plugs removed, check spark. It should jump a 7/16" gap with a strong blue lightning like flame.... a real SNAP! Does it?

Spark plugs should be Champion QL77JC4 plugs, gapped at .040.

"Don't have anything to check the compression. I removed the plugs, could not see any spark. The plugs that were in it were Autolite 2634, and I replaced with the same, gapped at 0.040. Spark plug wires appear to be new. Checked stator to make sure all wires were connected/grounded. Still nothing. The motor was running about two weeks ago before I bought it."
