I have a 1999 Evinrude 30hp O/

I have a 1999 Evinrude 30hp O/B have notice that there is gear oil coming out of were the prop is .Can anyone tell me what is wrong and is it hard to fix ? thanks

"is it blackish,..or very clean lookinbg,.....more than likely,its burnt fuel condensation,esp if u have been idling alot,or idling alot on hose..ck your lower unit oil for milky clr,and water....
the fix---if it is milky,would be to pressure and vacuum test lower nit,..could be just drain plug washers.... 1.00"

"If it is black and gungy then its prob just partly burnt oil from the fuel as JWB says.

If it is def clean or cloudy gear oil then its prob the prop shaft seals (easily cut by fishing line etc) identical seals fitted back to back #2 in IN THIS DIAGRAM

Note JWB's suggestion for a pressure vacuum test and recommendation to always fit new drain and level plug washers.

PS dont undo #13 next to the drain plug. bits inside fall apart if you do!"

"well it is very blackish looking and it look like a lot on the pavement. so would that be burt oil ,I do a lot of slow speeds. it is a good motor , if i is burnt oil can I still used it or should I check to lowerunit oil , dont want to use it if it is going to hurt it, But dont know if i can change it ,or not ,"
