Evinrude 30 hp impeller change

Hello everyone. Need some in

Hello everyone. Need some instruction on how to reinstall my new impeller. I have removed the old impeller but struggled a bit. I removed the lowest screw ( looks like a locking pin) in the lower unit in the process. I also unscrewed the shiftlinkage when you could access it at the
water intake. With all this done I now have the drive shaft comnpletely out as well as entire
water pump assembley . Can anyone explain what the correct method and order of reassembly is?
Also do the bolts holding the impeller housing in place need thread sealant? What does the locking pin in the lower unit do and how do I reintall ( in gear or neutral etc)> Thanks very much for reading this!

Cheers

Hi Randy:
You need to quote the model and serial number of your motor to get an answer. It's usually found on the mounting clamp.(year would be helpful too)

It's a 1994 I will look up the model number and post. Does the drive shaft ends require and grease upon reaassembly?

"Sounds like you might have taken out the "shift yoke" pin(screw). It will have a head and threads next to the head then the rest of the screw will look like a shear-pin. It's a phillips-head screww. You have to align the holes in the shift yoke prior to inserting this screw or you won't be able to shift. Use a flashlight to see inside the hole and a small phillips screwdriver to do the final alignment. then carefully insert the screw and make sure you put a little sealer on it to prevent leakage,... As for the water pump, lubricate the impeller, housing and pushing down on the housing, with the impeller in place, turn the drive shaft to the right and the impeller will collapse and fold into the housing. ...Put a little sealer on the upper surface of the lower unit prior to putting the plate on, and yes apply sealer to all water resistant surfaces and the screws as you apply them. NOTE: as you start tightening the screws, turn the drive shaft a little to the right, as you progress so the blades of the impeller don't get caught between the housing and the plate as you tighten the housing screws. ...Yes make sure the o-ring and shaft ends have grease on them as you go. Hope this helps...JIM...2nd NOTE: I think you can purchase the repair/service manual from here. It's a SELOC # 1300. And it will help you out on any part of your engine service..LOTS OF PICTURES!!"
