i have an 1985 e25elco engine

i have an 1985 e25elco engine and was wondering if i need to change water pump impeller. at an idle when first started it will pump water out weep hole but will get less forcefull until you start going across lake and then good pressure. if i do need to change could someone tell me if its in lower unit. thanks

"Sounds as though it might be time to fit a new impeller or even a complete pump repair kit.

The pump does sit in the top of the gearcase assembly. Accessible once that is dropped from the leg.

The upper and lower shiftrods will have to be disconnected at the connector accessible once the gearcase has been lowered a little.

Now is also the time to think about new seals as well perhaps. while you have it off

Terry does your engine have a through prop exhaus or does the exhaust exit from a snout at the ear of the cav plate..because it will make a difference in how the lower unit comes off

it does exhaust through two holes in rear middle of upper housing above lower unit and through exhaust too i believe

Terry if you have a through prop exhaust the upper and lower shift shaft connector is located behind the water intake screens. Hold the fixed nut (1\2 inch) and undue the top nut..once undone push the nut up the upper shift shaft and remove a plastic cone...remembering which way it faced...slid the nut off th upper shift shaft and the rest is easy.
