Having trouble dropping the lower end. Do I have the only engine were the shifter rod disconnects from the top end? Is it as simple as loosening the bolt that runs the shifter actuator on the motor its self?
 
You have to remove the water pick-up screens and disconnect the linkage under them. Go to shop.evinrude.com, look up your motor and you'll see what I mean.

Already done that. Dropped the lower end down. Every video I have watched says there is a disconnect screw on the shifter rod. there isn't on mine. I have a solid rod that runs clean up to the bottom of the motor.
 
Have you got all the linkage parts off of the lower shift rod ?? If you do the gear case should just slide off.
