Recently acquired an older evinrude 20hp pull start, late 90s model, been sitting unused for about a year or so. Where should I start on bringing this baby back to life?

Check / change gear oil.----Add 50:1 gas oil mix and go fishing.----Note the term " older " means nothing.----Post model # to get proper help.

I strongly recommend new spark plugs and non oxy fuel as well. Completely drain old fuel from tank and start fresh, that includes pumping old fuel out of the hose until you get the fresh stuff flowing. Have an assistant help with that.

Thank you, non oxy? As in ethanol free?
It wasn't connected to a fuel supply. Had been sitting outside for over a year on Stand

I sprayed some mercury power tune in the air intake and hooked it up to some fresh ethanol free gas 50:1, gave it about a dozen pulls and nothing. All I've tried so far...

Okay. Do you have any history of it? Any compression numbers? Typically it takes a pretty good arm to pull these over. With both spark plugs out pull over briskly and see if the spark can jump a 3/8" to 7/16" gap. A simple way, if you have an assistant, is to take a #2 Philips screwdriver with an insulated grip....insert in plug wire boot, engaging wire end, and hold the shank of it about aforementioned distance from a head bolt. Should notice a cracking blue spark on both cylinders.

No history other then it ran when they pulled it off a jon boat they sold and let it sit for about a year, father and young son, i believed em.
I'm definitely not lacking the arm.
Thanks for the tips, this is exactly the kind of info I've been looking for.

Have any spark plug grounded when doing this . It can knock out the ignition box if you have one your testing and the other plug leads just laying there ..
