It has been a long time since i fixed one of those so my memory will be spotty. It was easy to rebuild except for gasket. i think there is a check valve on bottom of unit. If there is, then that is most likely your problem. The check valve is leaking and as the fluid escapes the system sinks down. There have been posts about replacing the seal on check valve needle. If not here, then chrysler/force forums in iboats website. It is not a good DIY project, but possible. Requires patience and attention to details.

by the way it has a check valve at the bottom with a circlip holding it in Can that come out without dissembling the whole unit to replace the check valve seal. I was told that the parts are no longer available cheers Tony

the parts are not. however, there is a thread in chrysler about using a briggs and stratton carberator kit to stop a prestolite check valve from leaking.

you take out the circlip and run the pump. the pressure will pop out the plug. make sure to do inside a plastic bag or something. the plug can go flying 10-20 feet.

thanks again, your info has been a great help. once I take out the plug is it an O ring that is the problem or is it a different type of seal and how do I go about getting on to the Chrysler thread ,do I just click on to Chrysler on the home page instead of the evinrude and ask there thanks once again
