"I have found somewhere that Evinrude 9.9 takes about 1 gallon/hour on a full throttle.

Mine evinrude doubles that!!!! and not on a full throtlle.

Can it be a incorrect float drop , or please can you help me to adjust to match near 1 gall/hour.
I think that slow speed needle adjustment is ok.
I installed a new sparks , new CD2 module. Everything fine, except i don't know about breaker point ignition and how it can be adjusted.

Thx"

Your motor doesnt have points

Your motor doesnt have points it is cdi. The engine can burn upto .9 of a gallon of fuel per hour flat out and if yours is using more it must be running very rich on the plugs. Check them and check the fuel pump as one of the diaphrames may have a pin hole in it (pump diaphrame)

The plugs i refer to are the s

The plugs i refer to are the spark plugs.

Has your 9.9 got a 15hp carby on it as thats the only way it could get that much more fuel through it.

"Does it smoke and/or smell ri

"Does it smoke and/or smell rich at low to medium speed? What is your mixing ratio? Are you the original owner.....when did it get bad? Tell us what the spark plugs look like and what number they are. Check to see if the carb opens up with the timing advance as you twist open the throttle. Look to see if any parts in this area are missing, tampered with, or bent. The carb must open well after the timing plate has begun to advance. If somehow this is not indexed, your performance and mileage will suffer dramatically. Get us this info pls and we will fix you up. Thanx, Tim"

"I did a 'test' some years ago, driving my daughters boat, 12 ft, Evinrude 15, 45 miles distance full speed in exact 2 hours non stop. Total consumption 18 liters. Divide by 3,8 and you get the gallons, 4,7 Gal! This however was the 'new' type. Anyway it gives about 2,4 Gal/hour."

"Wow.....over 9 mpg, pretty go

"Wow.....over 9 mpg, pretty good! I've done up to 6 mpg with 1997 Merc 50 tiller on an 18' Alumarine (made in Canada). Lite load, however. Checked it many times on a 32 mile trip. You gotta trim 'er up and back down on throttle just right. Beautiful motor."

"Jamie : Sorry about those pl

"Jamie : Sorry about those plugs , when i post it came to me.
So , I got the motor , and it had stoped working in motion. So the problem was that CD2 module wasn't giving any power to the sparks. I changed the CD2 module ,and it started. I only clened the carb and reasebeled it back but i don't know is this carb really from 9.9. or 15 HP. How can i determine the carb , i didnt mesure the air intake.?

Timothy : It doesnt smell or smoke. The ratio is 50:1
I purcased new spark plugs from champion L77JC4.
Carbs opens well with the timing plate.

MOrten : yes , well , regarding your post I have a 15HP carb. That will solve my fuel consumption problem, but i think that i have a 9.9 carb , refering to books and manuals."

"Thanx, how about prop? Maybe

"Thanx, how about prop? Maybe someone put propeller from a larger motor. Can you give us details off prop? If motor isn't at proper RPM your waisting fuel."

"3 blade , i will try to measu

"3 blade , i will try to measure the dia.
I looked some pictures from evinrude 9.9 motors and the I think that it's a default prop that comes with 9.9 motor."

What size and type boat are we

What size and type boat are we referring to??? Any marine growth on hull??? Number of passengers and load???

"I bought a repair kit for the

"I bought a repair kit for the fuel pump and change it. Through the instructions all the way and even the final step to try to blow air to IN and it goes to OUT but not the other way as it should be. So the pump is OK. When i squezze the fuel bulb after three times , the bulb is hard but it releases somewhere. I looked for leaks all the way thru the pump and all is ok. , even thru the carb is ok.NO LEAKS. So my question is , is this normal that you can squeeze the bulb , or it has to be firm. ? What is the hole in the base of the fuel pump , and on the base pump gasket ,taht goes to the engine ?????"

"Pump bulb should squeeze then

"Pump bulb should squeeze then get hard, once motor is running should maintain moderate hardness. Impulse hole that activates the pump. Are you getting the boat on step?"

"So the boat is cca 750 pounds

"So the boat is cca 750 pounds or around 350 kg , made of plastic and 15 ft long.
What do you mean " on step ". if you mean that the motor is adjusted not to bring up or down the boat the answer is yes , except on full throtle it brings at front a little bit up.
Add a 80 kg , to that 350 kg , plus motor weight.
That's the weight of whole boat arounf 450 to 500 kg.
I repaired a fuel pump . OK
I bought a repair carb kit , made that also , everything OK.When i got the carb down , it's a 9.9 carb 100% sure.

I don't know what else to check ???? or to do to bring down that fuel consumption. Maybe it's normal for that kind of boat , but I'm still not sadisfied when it drinks a 4 liters / on 5 miles !!!! too much , and not on full throtlle."
