Evinrude 1982 cooling problem

Hello!

I have a problem with an old 7.5, I think its from 1982. After a few minutes of running in a barrel it starts to blow out alot of white smoke, and the head is burning hot. The head is also discolored from overheating. But I have a new impeller and I have a steady stream of water coming out from the tell tale. There is'nt a thermostat installed, but it should be cooling fine without one anyways, right?

You need a bigger test bucket !!-----------Water must be 6" above the pump.----------Install a new impeller now and test in a bigger bucket or on a boat in the lake.
