Hello everyone,

I have an old Evinrude 6H that isn't running at its full potential. It starts okay after a few tugs but moves very slowly in water. I have it connected to an Alumicraft 9' so it should propel it forward with ease. I would lik to do the work on it myself, what could the problem be? Where should I focus my attention? What am I looking at for part cost? I have never worked on engines before so every bit of help helps!!

While running in a barrel do a cylinder drop test. Pull a plug wire and put it back on. The engine should respond the same for both cylinders. If it stalls your only running on one cylinder. Use a good pair of insulated pliers so you dont get bit. Get back with the results and the model number of the motor.
