Evinrude 1969 skitwin model 33902A

I had pulled the flywheel and removed the timing plate retainer ring and the ring below it part # 303277 #51 on parts page was installed with the beveled side up that has a notch in it I am certain of.I came upon some info that the beveled side should be facing down.Can anyone confirm?

Bevel side down, flat side up. Notch means nothing.

Thanks so much for the rapid response!I had it on the way I took it off for sure and just by accident saw a reference to it being opposite but wanted to verify it.
