I took pictures of my motor concerning the question on where the shift lever hits on the stop in neutral..First picture it hits as you can see when it is in neutral and with throttle turned as far as I can, this is pre-start up of course.I am of the opinion it should not hit where the first picture shows and think maybe the lever is bent ever so slightly? On the other hand I was told on this site that neutral will have less rpms than reverse which would explain the lever hitting where it does.Next picture shows the position when I just put it in reverse and the throttle knob lines up on the start, which I know they do not line up most of the time with the decals or wording on the throttle.Need to clarify this once and for all before I bend the lever out of the way.It is only hitting by maybe a 1/16th.Seems I need to get more throttle to finally get this to start.Have new cam roller on now,not sure if that will help?

The pictures are correct. You DO NOT want the engine to be in the "neutral start" position... and running in the rpms that are obtainable when in reverse, hence the first stop which is the proper starting position for the throttle.

Pertaining to the stop, start, run, fast, whatever that wording says on the tiller handle... Ignore it. That was put there as a whim of the engineers to cover up those two screws that hold the handle together. There there just for reference as to which way is slow... which way is fast... as if you didn't know in the first place.

Thanks for taking the time to clarify this Joe. I just was very unsure what was going on since the motor was a neglected basket case when I got it and want to bring it back to life..
