Hi folks,

after a test run I faced the following problems:

  • the motor runs "irregular" but works and turns off after a while, with our without accelerating
  • it seens that the motor runs very rich, turning the adjustment screw does not change that
  • a small tube is leaking (picture) , #27 ?

Any suggestions ?

Thanks in advance

I did the following things till now:

-Replaced the spark plug

-Rebuilt the fuel pump

-timing

-one cable of a coil does not seem to be good !?
IMG-20130611-WA0005.jpg
-checked the carburator, seems to be clean:

The problem still exists

-reinstalled the coil as recommended
-set timing
-no spark plug tester available (Ill try to get one), both spark plugs seem to work, i saw a spark

I performed a test run in a barrel, motor died after 3s. I noticed that the timing plated moved forwards and backwards about .5" during test run
IMG_20130615_195342.jpg Maybe this affects throttle ?

I noticed that i had not checked the float settings inside the carb, the float surface has to be parallel to the carb flange right ? Maybe this is causing this trouble ?

Furthermore i was not able to remove the bearing for the slow speed needle, how do I remove this? Is it included in all of the car rep kits like #18-7222 ?

Hey scooterx, go with kimcrwbr1's advice, and get rid of that black coil.
Your photo looks almost identical to the one I posted on here. One coil was black (the OMC type), and the other was light green (Made by Prufrex in Germany). The black one tested lower ohms on the secondary side than ideal, causing an intermittent spark.
Get the Prufrex coil (available at Napa Auto parts stores) and while you're at it, make sure your spark plug wires test close to zero ohms on your ohmmeter, and that the insulation on them is not cracked or abraded. Anything questionable, replace it.
Your points and condensers are likely ok, although it is worth changing them while you are in there. They are not expensive at all.
If that carb sat around for any length of time with gas in it, the float is likely saturated with fuel (if it is cork) and no more good.
My motor runs like a top now thanks to the helpful advice on here.
Good luck with yours!

Finally the motor runs !

I noticed that the armature plate is tight and thaty why the motor is more accelerating.
How can i make it more smooth ?

If you are asking how to make the movement of the armature plate more smooth, you need to remove the armature plate from the engine, and clean it up really good, then relube it with good quality marine grease. While you are at it, clean up and relube all the associated linkages as well.
This is what I did with my motor, and the throttle grip moves as smooth as butter.
