"Good Afternoon, I have a 1995 Evinrude Intruder 175 V6 that suddenly quit running while I had been riding about 35 mph for only about 5 minutes. I've replaced all 6 spark plugs, drained the gas from the carbs, and put 24 ounces of rubbing alcohol into 30 gallons of fuel to remove water. I checked the compression and 4 of the cylinders read very close to 100 psi, but 2 of them read absolutely zero (0).
The engine will run, but very poorly and it is difficult to crank. Where do I start? Is is possible that is a blown head gasket or worse- need an overhaul? Thank you for any advice."

I've done more troubleshoo

I've done more troubleshooting and the 2 cylinders that have no compression are firing but have not gas/oil on them unlike the other 4 cylinders. --Tyler

"Tyler,

Even the cylinder

"Tyler,

Even the cylinders that have compression are low. Even if the head gasket is bad you will still get some compression.

You are probably headed for a rebuild so you might as well pull the powerhead or buy another engine.

"Thanks Tony, It doesn't

"Thanks Tony, It doesn't look good after all. I pulled one of the heads and have a loose piston that has scarring on the cylinder. Time for a rebuild. --Tyler"

stay away from using alcohol b

stay away from using alcohol buy a good water seperator I think the alcohol dillutes the oil to much good be one of your problems

Tyler agree with John. I used

Tyler agree with John. I used some dry gas one time next thing I know I was coming in on three cylinders pulled the head and found a piston loose not good. Good luck bud!

"You're no doubt looking at a major overhaul, but I'm curious as to which two cylinders have no compression."

"JOE, I don't know the cyl

"JOE, I don't know the cylinder numbers, but they are the bottom two (adjacent) on the left side looking from the rear of the engine. This only a guess, but it appears that a ring has broken in one of the cylinders, which would explain the loose piston and some minor scarring of the cyl. wall. I talked to a local mechanic and he says anywhere from 1800-2500 for a rebuild depending on what he finds. Whew!!! these engines aren't cheap to repair. Oh well, it's almost peak season for crappie fishing here, gotta have it running."

"Tyler.... That's about av

"Tyler.... That's about average for an overhaul if it's done correctly. Standing in back of the engine, the cylinders are numbered as below.

2...1
4...3
6...5"
