"We are trying to identify an Evinrude engine that came to us in bits! There is absolutely NO ident. Plate on it anywhere, but so far the info we have is this;-
It is 115hp/V4 painted white and the top cover says 'Ocean Pro'.
It is a Loop 'FICHT' fuel system with 4 carburetors.
It has an 'OIS 2000 - optical ignition system fitted.
We belief the shaft length to be 20'', so we have;
_ E115FS/FTL _ _ _. Is there any way of pinning down the model year? We think it is in the 1992-1998 group but in which year was the OIS 2000 system first used? Also according to the model codes FICHT went to fuel injection in 1999, further confusing us!"

"You have a few conflicting pieces of information there. First, the Ficht motors didn't have carburators, just simple throttle bodies with oil injectors in them. Second, the OIS2000 system was not used with Ficht. The Ficht EMM controlled spark.

The old 1.6 Liter cross flow V4 ran until 1995. It was continued as a 115spl until 1998. It was always carburated, and was never equipped with OIS2000. The SPL models weren't equipped with oil injection or a regulated charging system.

The 1.7Liter Loop charged V4 was introduced in 1995. it was equipped with OIS 2000 and carburators. In 1998 a few select models were equipped with Ficht. In 1999, the whole Evinrude lineup went Ficht from 90hp up and Fourstroke from 70hp down. Johnson remained carb 2 stroke.
In 2000, the labeling was changed to Ficht Ram injection. In 2002, BRP took over the Evinrude/Johnson brands. the Bombardier name appeared on top of the cover. Evinrude remained Ficht Ram injected. Johnson took over all the four strokes and continued with the carb two strokes until 2006 when they were discontinued along with the Johnson brand. By this time most of the Evinrude brand was equipped with E-tec injection.

If you have the motor cover, and a ficht, you can narrow it further.

1997-1998 word "FICHT" in large bold letters on a regular Evinrude cover

1999 "F" in a circle with 2 swirls around it. Gray and red ribbon on cover.

2000 Ficht RAM injection logo with Gray and red ribbon on cover.

2001 Ficht RAM injection logo with red arrow pattern and words "2006 EPA standard"

2002 Ficht RAM injection spread out in small letters across lower part of cover. Two or three parallel stripes on cover

2003-phase out. Same cover as above except "Direct Injection" replaces Ficht."

Did someone pop out the welsh

Did someone pop out the welsh plug? (silver disk the size of a quarter) - should be smack in the middle of the exhaust cover beween the two cylinder heads.

If it's still there the model number will be stamped into the plug.

"Ok thanks guys, we are checking all this out. The air intake assy has the words 'Loop charged V4'written there and the pistons are the dome headed ones it shows in our manual as being Ficht, will let you know."

"Dcramer/Graham. So hopefully I can upload these pics of the engine. Engine cover with 'Ocean Pro'on it;Air intake with 'Loop charged V4';Carburators?; Electrics with 'OIS 2000'on it;3-Pistons, one damaged & 2 showing dome head.Still waiting to check welsh plug, block is at an engineering works. But looking like 1998 special 1.7liter E115FTLEC, wonder how it got to South Africa?

"Those look identical to the pistons in my 1986, 140 horse 90 degree looper - right down to the port and starboard labels in the piston dome.

You really are going to have to find that welsh plug to figure out what you have there.

Or it could be nothing more than a powerhead with an assorted collection of parts from other motors...."

"Looks to be a 96. However a part number search on the piston number should give it more accurate, as well as the power pack part number. Search 'where used' at the BRP site, advanced search."

I think the 1995 ocean pro&#39

I think the 1995 ocean pro's had the same cover. OMC made a wholesale switch from the big red plug to the deutch connectors in 1996. I'm not sure if the Eagle V4's jumped the gun by a year since they were introduced in '95. I can't tell by your pix if the wiring hanging off the igniton box is the series of deutch connectors for connecting the instrument cluster etc.
