Evinrude 1077 70HP Tilt & trim

Hi I have been told that it is possible to fit a slightly later mid-section in order to use the single ram tilt & trim - the older twin rams on the outside are too hard to get. Is this possible?
Would the exhaust adaptor match straight up etc?

Yes any 3 cylinder midsection up to 85 will fit.--------Plenty of those around with tilt and trim on them-----May need to find the electrical parts as well.
 
I have a 1977 70 hp Johnson or should I say two of them. I was given one without a lower unit (but has t and t) and yesterday bought another motor (without tilt and trim). I want to use the midsection with the t and t on the motor but they do not match up in length. The overall length from cavitation plate to bottom of motor is the same but the distance between swivels is different. I wanted to just add the t and t but it will not fit. Any help please.
