1986 Evenrude 90hp v4-vro. Mo

1986 Evenrude 90hp v4-vro. Model # E90TLCDC. Can anyone tell me what charging system is on this engine? Where is the Rectafier located and what is the best way to tell if it is actually charging or overcharging my batterys. I am reading 12.5 volts with the engine running
 
12.4 volts is a fully charged

12.4 volts is a fully charged battery. The charging system is under the flywheel with the voltage regulator at the back of the block.The charging system is usually yellow wires.Bottom line is the charging system on your motor is not working.

Thanks for the info. I guess neither of these engines are charging then. Any advise on how to troubleshoot would be greatly appreciated. I have a clymer manual but it is pretty vague.

" Take the yellow wires that lead under the flywheel and go from one to ground , should be no continuity. Wire to wire should be in the order of 1 ohm or less. It is likely the rectifier / voltage regulator unit at the back of the power head (water cooled and mounted at the top). "
