The WOT Range for my new E-TEC

The WOT Range for my new E-TEC 90hp motor is 4500-5500rpm according to the book. Does that meen I can run any rpm in that range safely and not damage my motor. The dealer is trying to tell me that itneeds to run as close to the 5500 as possible and have propped it down so low that I can hardly hit 30mph with it.

what rpm are you getting at wot now.if its low
change pitch to raise it up or lower it for better performance and proper rpm range at wot.

I startted with a 13 3/4 X 17Pitch prop and got about 39mph @ 4700rpm. Then they went to a 13 3/4 X 15pitch and got 31mph @5050 rpm. by the time I get up to the 5500rpm 13 1/2 X 13pitch prop I'll be lucky to get 25mph. It seems to me that the E-TEC is a gutless motor with no power behind it after take-off.

"it seems that you got the best results with,13 3/4x 17 @ 39 4700 rpm, witch is acceptable range.
the other props get you out of the hole quicker but take away top speed, try going in the other direction maybe a 13 x 19 ,that may run too low.
does it have power trim/try to play it out a little.also check for excess water/weight on board.
4500/5500 is recommended by the mfgr for best results do not run under do not run over."

UPDATE: Today a guy was at the marina and saw my boat sitting there and while talking with a mechanic heard what was going on with my boat. He looked at it for about 5 minutes and told them that the motor was mounted way to high. they dropped the motor down 3 holes and took it out and tried it with a 15 pitch prop and it over ran the red line of 5500 rpm. they put a 17pitch blade on it and it ran in the mid fourties mph and 5400 rpm. He said the problem with the motor that high is that it couldn't be trimmed out properly. Thank you all for your input here on the forum. Bernard Egan
