Engine won't statt

I just put a 1994 5.7 remanufactured mercruiser in my 1994 220 sunesta chaparral. I have spark and gas in the carburetor. It will not fire. I have rotated the distributor back and forth multiple times. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Where was the #1 piston in it's travel, and on which stroke was the #1 piston, when the distributor was installed?

The #1 piston should have been approx 6 to 8 degrees BTDC and on the compression stroke when the distributor was installed and indexed.

Thank you for the response. I will.have that checked out. It's been very frustrating. Just cant get the boat to fire.

It should pop back through the carb or do something. Try some starting fluid (ether) to get a response. Your plugs may be fouled.

DO NOT try to light your boat on fire!
Instead, try to get the engine to fire up!
;):)

Seriously.... check out the distributor indexing before spending more time elsewhere.

Checked it with the coil wire. A boat mechanic installed the distributor. We tried a timing light and it wouldn't work. I'm thinking lack of spark.

spark from the coil wire to ground has spark, spark from plug wire ground does not?

missing / damaged / shorted rotor
