I recently picked up a 1994 johnson 4hp deluxe - model j4rdhlere. the guy that i got it from swore that it ran. it had been sitting inside his shop for no telling how long, years i suspect. when i got it home i cleaned the carburetor up put in new spark plugs gapped at .030. and hooked up fresh fuel. I checked to see that it was getting fire to the plugs, it is, very strong spark. I cannot get it to start. once in a while it will pop. it actually started 1 time but only ran for a few seconds. i checked the compression and both cylinders had 90 psi. is it possible that the diaphram in the fuel pump dried up and it is not getting enough fuel in the cylinder??? i'm not too experienced on marine engines so any help is appreciated. thanks in advance guys.
