engine testing

I have rebuilt my engine mercruiser 1992 5.0 quad carb. is there a way for me to start and run this before I put back in boat? what needs to be jumped at plug and what needs power?

simply connect the battery, jump from the + battery to the + coil and jump the solenoid

connect the battery ,jump 6 to 5 , short the solenoid
