"Engine seems to vapor lock after 30 min. run time. Still getting gas to the carb, because the motor will restart, idle & throttle up... but when i try to accelerate in gear it stall out. I have checked all electrical systems and they check out good. After a 30 min to 1hr. wait period the motor will start and run another 30 min. and stall again.i also checked the condition of my gasoline at the filter - its good, I slid a aluminum wire down thru my p/u tube to check for an obstruction - nothing. 1976 Formula f233c w/ ford eng. 351 - 233hp"

Sounds like two issues. First check the accellerator pump for twin squirts of fuel upon a quick throttle movement. You should see two squirt gun shots of fuel. If the pump lever has 3 holes in it then move the pump rod to the hole near the outer end for more fuel.

The engine dying after 30 mins. may be the coil failing due to heat. Replace it; if that does not cure the problem you have a spare for the tool box.

i aggree with guy sounds like

i aggree with guy sounds like a thermal breakdown with your coil and FYI get a marine coil the auto coils dont last but a few days if that

"Thanks Guys, I did purchase a new marine coil, installed it while on the water, during my stall interval.Restarted the motor-reved it, shifted into forward gear-the motor cut off.
In addition the carb always pumps well(two good squirts)even during the stall... could the carb be flooding the engine somehow? The re-built carb only has apprx. 5 hrs. of actual run time due to my stalling problem. Prior to the stall, the motor runs perfect...new fuel pump, racor filter, fuel lines, marine mechanic tune up, replaced the filter in the fuel supply to the carb - WHAT AM I MISSING?"

""The re-built carb only has apprx. 5 hrs. of actual run time due to my stalling problem."

Check the accellerator pump lever and pump rod. If the lever has 3 holes in it for positioning the pump rod, connect the rod to the outer hole for a larger shot of fuel from the accel. pump.

HOLD ON TIGHT TO THE CLIP!"

"Guy

I checked the accel. pump lever, it only has the one hole which the rod is securely clipped into the lever.

"This procedure is going to increase the amount of gasoline entering the carb with each advancement of the throttle, correct?

So... you don't think that my carb's current jet settings is causing it to flood while running? Properly adjusting the carb jets is not a remote possibly."

Did you have the stalling prob

Did you have the stalling problem prior to the carb rebuild? If not I would take the carb back to whoever did the work and make them do it right. SOunds like someone might have screwed up.

Drilling an extra pump rod hol

Drilling an extra pump rod hole will only increase the amount of fuel at instant throttle increase and only for the length of the throttle stroke. It gives a few more drops of fuel to the engine to reduce stalling. Some carbs come w/3 holes for that reason.

"Check the gas tank vent for m

"Check the gas tank vent for mud dobber clog; check the vent hose for a sag that might be filling with gas on acceleration (bow high) and causing tank not to vent. This happened to me and like to have drove me around the turn looking at everything else, ie all the things that have been mentioned above. Good luck. JW"
