Engine sound-level Merc200 77

I have used that the noise-level of my merc200 is not very low at all speeds. This engine have exhaust holes upper part of the engine, and also exhaust route throughout the prop hub. When i leave my dock, i like to drive for a while with very low rpm, because i want to let the engine warm up slowly, before set the cruise power. When i put more power, the noise is getting more and more high, of course, but some point just little bit before cruise power (not full power), seems like the engine leave the sound behind, there is significant decrease with engine noise level, and still engine takes more rpm and speed. i wonder is it that point, when the exhaust fumes are going only throughout the prop hub under the water?

Sound waves can fool you.-----I had an outboard one time with straight exhaust pipes.----Was not too bad when I was driving the boat.-----One time I was standing on shore and heard my motor but could not see my boat.-----Took those pipes off the next day.----Still have those pipes somewhere.

Thanks for answer. That could be possible. Generally these older Mercury´s seems have very different sound than all other engines.
