I have a 120 hp Evinrude outboard motor. I believe it is a 1990 motor. Bought the boat used and had a mechanic change prop, throttle control, and impeller as soon as I bought it. On my second day out while going about 30mph my boat shut off and I got the constant tone of the overheat alarm. I had a half tank of ethinol free 93 octane gas and a half tank of oil. After a few minutes the boat started and ran at slow speed while the alarm continued. Once I slowly got back to the trailer to load it I decided to switch off the battery and then turned it back in hoping something would reset. It easily started back up and the alarm was no longer active. I took the boat out 2 more times without incident, but this weekend the motor alarmed at 25mph. The boat makes hot water out of the pee hole that isn't too hot to burn your hand. Is this a temp sensor issue? If so how do I know which one is the problematic one. The port side one is pricy so I hate to just randomly change parts. How can I test it. The Evinrude motor is VE120TXESB. Is there another possible cause?
