engine problems

mercury 50 hp 2 stroke carb. dies above half throttle engine will not not turnover for about 10 seconds then will restart and hear rattling noise in engine will not do this out of water with garden hose hooked up. any replies welcome.

How long have you owned the motor ???----------Have you checked the oil in the lower unit ??------------------Has the waterpump been maintained / looked at recently ??-------Post the results of a compression test .
