"I have a 1973 9.5 Johnson last year it ran great, this year it has started to run rough. To get it to idle it has to be almost half throttle and when you put it gear you have no power at all. It has just gotten worse every time I used it. Put new plugs in it but that didn't help, can anyone help me with this problem."

"sound like a dead cylinder or fuel problem. A Quick check for spark should steer you in the right direction. Try taking a timing light powed up from a 12v batt. and connect the pick up to each cylinder. one at a time see if the light strobes. if it does look to see if each cylinder is wet with fuel, by pulling the spark plugs and looking at the tip."
 
I hooked up the timing light a

I hooked up the timing light and both wires made it strobe and both are damp with fuel.It will idle just fine but it is almost full throttle. I also noticed that there is alot of fuel in the tank that I'm running it in. Thank you for your help
 
I think it sounds more like a

I think it sounds more like a carburetor problem. It seems that most of these unexpected problems are caused by fouled carbs.
