"I have 1972 100 horse jonhson

"I have 1972 100 horse jonhson out board. The problem is when I prep the boat it seems to run fine. I hook the hose to it to run it for a few, and when i get on the water it runs great for the first 20 minutes or so. Then ill sit and fish for a while and it will start up good. Thats when I seem to have problems. If I idle for a while and then try to throttle up it will run for a minute then die and won't start up.If i wait for a while it will start up, but will only idle back to the dock. If I try to give it any throttle it dies again. I think it is over heating and shutting down, but like I said...when it first runs it runs like a scalded dog hope you can help..."

"That engine has a overheating

"That engine has a overheating warning horn system. To test, have the engine NOT RUNNING but have the ignition key in the ON position.

Now, find the TAN overheating sensor wire protruding from the cylinder head, slide the insulating cover back and ground it out to the powerhead. The horn should sound. If it does not, find out why and correct that problem.

Let us know what you find."

sounds like it could also have

sounds like it could also have a fuel surge!
i had a simmilar problem with my vindicator and it was due to a poor fuel line connection!

Mine was doing the same thing

Mine was doing the same thing and I found a pin hole in the pickup tube in the tank that was sucking air......causing something like a vapor lock!!
