"I have a 2000 5.7 carbed. Last Sunday the boat started to malfunstion while I was going on cruise speed and it stopped. The gauge did not show increase in temperature but the oil pressure was a little higher than usual. When I looked at the engine, my waterpump was leaking and the hose that goes from under the carburator to the riser was disconnected (I beleive it's the intake). I noticed the metal part where that hose is connected to the riser was kind of burned. (Only the one on the port side).
I just changed my waterpump seal a month ago but I noticed the mechanic kind of overtight the belt. Can an overtight belt damage a waterpump? And what could have caused the engine to malfunction and that hose to get burned? I know it can be many things, but your input is appreciated.

"If you placed a lot of side load on a water pump pulley yes you could burn the bearing, But you would have had to use a lever and a lot of strenght to do this. The hose over heated due to lack of water flow, or a blocked riser."

You are absolutely right about the bearing. My mechanic checked it yesterday and he told me that the bearing is gone and I have to replace the pump.
However, now I do worry about a bloked riser or exhaust manifold. My mechanic told me thoses hoses are of no use and he was planning to just use a plug and eliminate the hose. What do you think?

i have a volvo AQ131C 4 cyl th

i have a volvo AQ131C 4 cyl this problem just started ! i put the boat in the lake it started up no problem ran about 1/4 mile or so at full throttle no miss so spiting ran great cuome to an idle stalles will not start i checked the fule filter it is new ! i changes the fuel bulb it had cracked some and then tried again same results stalled would not start and run HELP PLEASE????

engine problem i have a AQ131C

engine problem i have a AQ131C volvo motor i am haveing problems when i put it in the lake today it started fine rode fine for about 1/04 mil then when i came to a stop it stalled and would not start again well it would start and stall i put a new fule bulb it waas craked and split any way put it back in the lake drove about the same distance and it just will not idle it just stalles any sugegsetings please ???
