I have a 2.5L 153 CID inline 4

I have a 2.5L 153 CID inline 4 that I'm going to rebuild over the winter. I know a little bit about enhancing the performance of an engine for cars. How does that differ with marine engines? Do you want low end performance to get up on plane quickly or high end performance for hauling 4 skiers at 36 mph? Any thoughts out there.

"for not much more than the cost of a rebuild kit for your 2.5, you could probably find a good running used 3.0. If your 2.5 still runs you can sell it for a few hundred bones.
The 3.0 makes 20HP more and could get you another 2 or 3 mph top end speed. It's a dead simple swap as externally the 2 motors are the same.

Both the 2.5 and 3.0 are maxed out. There are no performance upgrades that will increase your speed."
