Engine not pumping water in idle mode

"I have a 1997 85 Yamaha outbo

"I have a 1997 85 Yamaha outboard and it is not pumping water when in idle mode. I have replaced the impeller but it is still not pumping when idling, it runs hot. If you run the engine on higher revs the engines pumps water and runs fine, not sure what can cause this, any ideas."

Firstly, r

Firstly, remove the thermostat and check its operation ( submerse in hot water and check it opens fully )
Also run the motor in a tank NOT on muffs and check water flow with t/stat removed.
If this fails, I have found on several occassions that the water tube from the pump to the power head can be corroded where the rubber grommet surrounds it. Good luck."
