Engine mount - tool recommendation

I'm not normally a fan of Harbor Freight but the hydraulic ram is a great tool especially for swapping engine mounts. It was only $79 (w/coupon) and makes moving the engine side to side a breeze. In my case, I left all four mounts loose and the engine slid back about 3". I literally had no place to get a long pry bar wedged so I could move it forward. Plus, the angle of my engines is steep so it required a lot of force to move it "uphill".

I used the jaw attachment and a 2x4" wedged between the engine mount bracket and a cross stringer which made quick work of it. It has a bunch of other attachments which I haven't even looked at yet.

Those are great kits Bob. Been using them for years. Great for moving engines in tight spaces when no room for leverage.

Smart move! Much better than using a bottle jack (as I did).

PS: Bought the same exact rig to make a tilting mechanism for my little boat's outboard motor.

As much as we hate to buy Chinese, if this weren't made in China it would cost 2-4 times as much and you would have to go rent one instead.

Ours is about 5 years old...works fine. No longer that clean looking orange paint. We use it routinely at our garage and bought the small ram to remove the shaft coupler a few years ago. There is no room behind or under those V-drives. We did blow a seal on that little ram. It is quite small and we must have put a bit of OOMPH behind that last pump. Still a good tool for the job without paying $600 to own it

Blew the seal, eh? Ugh; not good. I hope that does happen to me since the motor would come crashing down!
