"Hi Guys,
I'm going to be mating my 5.7 Gi to my D/P 290 and I'm wondering how to set the height of the front of the motor via the adjustments on the mounts. Luckily I did'nt tamper with the height adjustments I just unbolted the mount bases from the stringers. So what it the proper way to set the height/alignment? It only has two mounts.
Thanks, Jon Allen"

"Hi Mike,
Thanks for responding. I can now see what to check. Funny thing is that my Clymer and Seloc manual don't cover this procedure which actually looks quite simple. I assume that there are three marks and you adjust the mounts to align them as best as poss. I assume that once it's aligned you then tighten the clamping ring bolts to spec. Thanks again for a timely response as I will be doing this tommorow A.M Thanks, Jon Allen"

I used a piece of key stock and feeler gauges to verify that the bellhousing was the same distance from all three marks on the transom shield. Good luck.

"The 'original' alignment tool is just a small metal wedge with marks on.
You may easily make one. About 10cm long, 1,5 cm high in one end and tapered down to 0. Mark it down to 1 cm intervals, insert it between the flywheel-housing notches and transom notches. Ideal is to get same distance between the notches. (same mark on wedge)."

"Hi Guys,
Thanks for all your help regarding this post. One last question. Do you make your alignment adjustments before or after torquing the clamp ring bolts?

Thanks, Jon Allen"

"Hi Jon,

I inserted the bolts into the clamp ring hand tight. Then, with the engine connected to a chainfall I positioned it and adjusted the motor mounts. When everything looked good I relieved tension from the chainfall and torqued the clamp ring bolts in a star pattern. I checked the alignment again, made a slight correction, then drilled the holes for the motor mounts."
