I would sure appreciate some experienced input. Im considering the purchase of a '01 Regal 2860 with twin Volvo 4.3L V-6 EFI (190 Hp)that each have 281 hours. Im having the boat surveyed in the next 10 days but meantime Im wondering what and when and how much $$ I can expect in terms of future repairs. The boat is kept in the water in Sacramento. It has been in the ocean frequently but never for more than a week (it does not have a closed system). Thanks for any input.

"Raw water cooling systems and salt water don't mix, so the engines may need replacement before they need a rebuild. That's the facts. Ditto the exhaust manifolds, so plan on having to spend some money up front. You could ask for a deduction since the owner should have known better than order that boat (I assume he's the original owner) without FWC if it was to live in the ocean.

To reduce the damage after you buy it, you can install a flushing arrangement. After you use the boat--and even if it's kept at a slip---you hook up the hose and flush that sale water out. Guaranteed to add months of life to the engines.

You could also have an FWC kit installed, but that's big $$$ and you have the possibility of rust flakes plugging up the works.

PS: On the plus side, those are common engines so you can shop around for prices when the time comes."
