I bought a bayliner ciera 2855 and its in need of a new engine. My question is where would be the best place to get a deal and should I stick with the 454 or go with something that's better on gas?

In a 2855, is anything good on gas? In my opinion and way of thinking if you went a smaller / more economical engine, you would very disappointed in performance and may actually use more gas pushing the smaller engine hard enough to move that big boat around. Maybe a modern fuel injected big block may save you some on fuel costs, but engine is way more bucks.

There is a Bayliner 2750 made in the late 90's that had a 305 ci. Was'nt great for speeding etc but we can't go fast on Lake Michigan anyway. With the proper pitch prop it still gets on plane and has good mpg unless hammered. This one really changed my mind. This old boat has had no major work required. It will run all day on plane around 19-20 mph and save $$ ,At 3600 rpm after it planes out. With a 350 it would probably be better. The big block would really make it dance. You have to evaluate your needs.
