" Gerald...The motor you have has a mercury style ignition system. You most likely have a stator failure unless the motor has the new RED stator already installed. Mercury had a recall (although no longer active) on the stators. Any mercury dealer can supply you with parts for this motor. This doesn,t rule out other igntion parts may be the cause but odds are with the stator OK...DJ "
