"I recently aquired a 1984/85

"I recently aquired a 1984/85 Galaxy Classic with a Mercruiser 140 I/O. The water pump on the engine was seized solid from rust. I am planning on replacing the water pump on the engine as well as the thermostat and housing along with all the cooling hoses and on the stern drive, the impeller and its housing , actualy I am replacing the entire water pump assembly in the stern drive. My question is, how can I flush out the engine to be sure that there is no rust left in places it should not be in? Thank you in advance for any help any of you can give me."

"You can get a flush attachment at any auto parts store that adapts to several different hose sizes, and has a garden hose connector on the other end.
It also has a handy on-off valve and a Shrader air connection so you can hit it with compressed air at the same time.

"Thank you for your quick response, Rod. Is there any particular hose I should connect this to? Also would it be overkill to remove and inspect the inside of the riser or would the engine flushing be sufficient in your opinion? Thanks again."

Ayuh,....

All of them......While you've got it torn down......

I wouldn't pull the riser, unless it is already suspect, with Rust around the joint...."
