Engine fit

Replacing a AQ225B (305 GM block) with a Marine power (MPE5.7LV-VR1) which is a 350 Vortec. Will this engine fit to the existing engine mounts? The port to stbd mounting centerlines are 23" but I'm not to sure of the fore/aft dimensions. Can't get any answers from MP.

This engine will fit precisely as intended. The only issue that we have with the later SBC, is the tooth count/size of the flywheel.
The AQ series Flywheel Cover (bell housing in the auto world) will NOT allow for the 168 tooth flywheel. So, the 153 tooth flywheel that works with the later crankshaft flange, must be used.
This flywheel is a later Camero car application.
MichiganMotors can supply you with one, or you find one from a Camero.

This later engine may require an electric fuel pump. Be sure you know the criteria for using an electric fuel pump! (i.e., oil pressure shut-down, and start by-pass)

NOTE: make dang sure that you replace the PDS bearings in your F/C before putting this back together.
The bearings and seals are very inexpensive, compared to the damage caused when the aft-most bearing eventually fails on you.
Trust me on this one!

Get back in touch if you need details on this...... as there are several important "does/don'ts" to this!
I can suggest how to purchase these for under $45! And good US bearings, NOT Chinese!

Remember..... the Volvo Penta drive will ONLY work with a standard LH rotation engine.
Also, there is an initial engine alignment, but it is quite different from that of Mercruiser, OMC and/or later Volvo Pentas that are Gimbal system suspened.

Good luck with the project!

Rick, Your comments well taken. and definitely appreciated. I did purchase this engine from MichiganMotors and they did supply the 12 3/4" flexplate. It also does come with the electric fuel pump although your point as to the oil pressure shut down and start by-pass I'll look into. I have replaced the bearings and seals of the PDS, as I have seen your comments on this often.

To all who are interested in this install. The Marine Power "replacement engine's", motor mounts are shorter/different than the original OEM Aq225D (305) Volvo. Port to STBD spacing is the same, fore aft is the same, only the vertical dimensions are different. Thus I had to relocate the mounting aluminum angles higher to align the FC to the transome shield.

This is also why we will occasionally see a spacer used underneath the engine mounts.
Not a deal breaker, per se', if we use something that will not rot or compress, and if we increase the length of the lag bolts some.

Sounds like you are on your way to the water soon! :D
