Hello, just picked up a new to me boat. It's a '94 with original 454 xl's. I'm confused on what oil to use and the overflow reservoir. I think theynhave sae 40 in them.

Run home was about 100 miles then I did a day last week and ran just a few hours. Boat ran great. Gauges were steady etc. the overflows are empty at rest and after running for a bit they get about half full. should they have fluid in them when cold, are they ok empty? I dipped my finger in the front and coolant was in neck close to the top, so I considered that full. A few friends have told me its fine.

Thanks!

40 weight is Crusader's standard recommendation you can email them and get the owner's manual which covers the basic maintenance. You can also download the more current models' owner's guides and use them as reference points.

The dega bottles should have coolant in them when cold...most have 'fill to' lines molded into them.
