Engine Auxiliary Shaft

I have a 1990 Bayliner Capri, With an OMC 2.3L engine. I have problems with the distributor. The teeth on the distributor are worn down and cracking. Looking at the auxiliary shaft, those teeth are also worn and cracking. If you watch the distributor turn when cranking the engine, it has a pause in it every time it goes around. Where can I find that auxiliary shaft? I haven't been able to find it in any of the boat part sites. Could I get it at an auto store?

Please help!

I had the same problem with my 89 Bayliner. It tore up completely my 1st time out with it. The aux. shaft is available but not cheap and you'll need a new dist. gear also. That gear needs to be pressed off and on. I was lucky. A local guy raced 4 cyl stock cars and had one he sold me for 10 bucks. So if you can find a junk yard with a 2.3 laying around you have a chance at getting off cheap.howlnmad
